What is athlete's foot?

Athlete's foot is a fungal infection on the stratum corneum of the skin, which usually occurs between the toes.
Studies show that about 20% of Dutch people occasionally suffer from this condition.

Causes

Regular warm and moist skin is a treat for fungi. In this environment, the fungi can easily penetrate the skin to cause infections here. You often see that foot fungi form around swimming pools or at sweaty feet.

When the natural protection of the skin decreases, athlete's foot is more likely to develop. This natural protection can become less if you often wash your feet with soap.
